North Africa: Tunisia and Morocco Ready to Revitalise Maghreb Construct, Says A. Ben Kiran

Carthage — Morocco’s Prime Minister Abdelilah Ben Kiran pointed out the Tunisian and Moroccan will to reactivate the process of finishing off the Maghreb edifice in a “concrete and realistic manner” and see to it that the forthcoming Maghreb Summit, scheduled for October 2012 in Tunis, will be crowned by efficient decisions and measures.

In a statement to the media at the end of his meeting, on Friday, with President Moncef Marzouki, Mr. Abdelilah Ben Kiran expressed optimism at the outcome of the democratic process launched in Tunisia and Morocco.

“This is the starting point to finishing off the Maghreb construct which is a strategic claim and a prerequisite for the materialisation of the Maghreb peoples’ aspirations to lift the material, moral and legal barriers,” the Moroccan Premier added.

He laid emphasis on the two governments’ determination to find solutions to the “minor” issues inherent to the Tunisian and Moroccan nationals’ stay in the two countries, by providing them with the right to movement, settlement, work and investment.

Mr. Ben Kiran, who is on a two-day visit in Tunisia, described his talk with the President of the Republic as “warm and fraternal,” pointing out the convergence of views between the two countries on several international issues.
