Aid to EU-Morocco Agreement Affected Fishermen Extended

SPAIN – The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has extended aid for the fleet affected by the suspension of the fisheries agreement between the European Union and Morocco for six months.

The new edition includes the extension from 15 June to 14 December 2012, provided that the situation is reversed. Aid will be open to all ships and crews in the previous edition would have benefited from them, without having to submit a new application. However, the vessels began their activity in the first shutdown period may re-qualify for this new call from the last date their fishing opportunities in other fisheries, introducing a new application. The amounts drawn for the financing of this aid are the same as for the current stop. For owners, the amount of €3,534,557 and for the 647 crew members concerned the amount rises to €5,328,045. The draft orders have been sent to the regional governments, the sectors (CEPESCA, FAAPE and FNCP) and trade unions. The stop would be interrupted in the case of fishing restarted under the new Agreement. A European Commission delegation traveled to Rabat to advance the new EU-Morocco Fisheries Agreement.
